PV Shunt Insertion..

I did mention that Aina had her 2nd surgery on 30th December 2010..and it was PV Shunt insertion surgery..

Dated 30th December 2010.

Why do she need for this procedure? 

It is because of her hydrocephalus and by inserting a VP Shunt, the increased pressure inside her skull due to excess CSF fluid  on her brain (hydrocephalus) can be relieved.

The VP shunt is placed at the right side of Aina's head..just behind the ears..What they do?? OK...to make it simple...VP Shunt insertion is to insert a valve (fluid pump) underneath her skin at the back of her right ear...this valve is connected to the brain's ventricle thru a small thin tube. Then from the valve...there is another thin tube which runs from the valve to her belly... This thin tube to her belly was also placed underneath her skin from the back to her right ear, to her neck and to her belly thru her chest...

How it is work?? OK...when there are extra pressure builds up around her brain...the valve ( fluid pump ) will open and the excess fluids will drains out of it into her belly where the fluid will be disgusted.

And this VP Shunt is permanent...meaning she will have to wear it all her life..If the shunt is faulty or damaged..then another surgery has to be performed to replaced it..

So far..for Aina's case..the surgery is a success...alhamdulillah...her head measurement deceased and physically me & wifey..notice that her head is becoming almost normal size..alhamdulillah...

And alhamdulillah...her VP Shunt Surgery wound also healed very well...and so far...we did not notice anything that she uncomfortable about the VP Shunt...Alhamdulillah...

Update On Previous Posts..

It has been awhile since my last update on this blog..Been a little bit busy managing a new life...between work...family..and being a first time father...All i can say is that...it is challenging..and fun !!

And Aina is getting healthier and healing well..Alhamdulillah..and she also getting chubbier too...hehehehehhe

I have manage to update some of the previous post with some details and info ( including illustrations ) about Aina's hydrocephalus and myelomeningocele...just for share knowledge with all of you out there...who knows it might help others and especially those first time parents who experience the same experience with mine..lets share them and give the best life we can for our children..A special gift from God which we must cherish, accept and do our best as parents...

Aina Coming Home...

Well..Wednesday evening..Aina was discharge...The news received during the afternoon but Aina only can be discharge in the evening cause the doctor is waiting for the NICU specialist to give the final green light..plus the doctors have to prepare summary report..set Aina's appointment..prepare some papers...

Anyway...at almost 5 pm...wifey called..Final word have been given !! AINA CAN BE DISCHARGE!!!CONFIRMED!!Woot!!woot!!...Alhamdulillah...feel so damn happy..nothing cant be described how i felt..only God knows...macam nak lompat lompat pun ada....macam nak declare esok cuti satu malaysia pun ada..

Reached HUKM around 8 pm with myself having a minor headache (Aina punya pasal no problem punyo..)...Went to NICU..took the discharge paper..pay Aina's bill at the Emergency Counter...took Aina's 1 months of medicine then go up to NICU again...

In NICU...sign up some release papers...and the nurse explained Aina's next appointment..man...she already has 3 appointments..or is it 4 appointments??..haiyark..have to recheck again..i can only remember 1 in February and 2 in March..

Around 9 pm something we leave HUKM...drop by at in law's house...for Aina to meet her Nenek, Mak Ngah and her nephews and picked up wifey's stuff...she couldn't met Atuk as Atuk was at surau..however..Aina's was sound asleep (like always) the whole time there...

Then straight to Gombak..at Granny's house..where Aina will be stay at the moment.. reached there around 10 PM plus...

and now....lets the real adventure begins....

YAY!!! Aina Might Be Coming Home....

Yippeee!!!!....Received a good news this afternoon...

Aina might be discharge by today's evening or night....

Neuro specialist = Green Light !

Nephrology = Green Light!

NICU Doctors = Green Light!

NICU Specialist = ????

Discharge = YES !!!

AWESOME!!!

Now only wait for the doctors in the NICU to have a daily ward round routine...and to inspect Aina before a final green light is given...

A Positive Development...Alhamdulillah...

It has been 17 days now...Aina still in the NICU...but her conditions seems to be improved very well..alhamdulillah...

Dated : 4th January 2011...Her hair...so thick..like ibu...sleeping like a beauty..

 Currently her vitals are good..no more swollen here and there except on her leg with minor swollen..

Her surgery wound heals well even not 100% yet except on her back which the stitches still have not come off..

She's now is tube & wired free except for the wire which detect her body temperature...

No more res tube feeding..she fed on bottles and susu badan..She also needs daily workout for her legs...

Aina...pronounce as 'ain-na' means mempunyai mata yang cantik or beautiful eyes... and yes..she does have them...big cute pairs of eyes with long eye lashes and one her right eye, her eye lashes even curved!!! hehehehehe...

As for Maheera...pronounce as 'ma-hee-ra' comes from arabic word mahir/maher (alaa...macam maher zain tuh ) which means higly skilled ( berkemahiran tinggi )...and yes...she will be a highly skilled person with a strong will when she grows up despite of her disability...yes...she will..daddy and ibu believe so...InsyaAllah...

PV Shunt Insertion Surgery : 2nd Surgery

On Thursday, dated 30th Dec 2010, Aina undergo another surgery...PV Shunt insertion surgery on her head in order to reduce her brain pressure and to flow the CFC liquid to her stomach..due to hydrocephalus...Her age that time was 5 days old.

i was there before she was admitted to the Operation Theater until the surgery was done...

Alhamdulillah..the surgery went well...

After the surgery, Aina was asleep due to the effect of 'anesthetic'...May Allah protect her and heal her pain and wound...

 Due to the usage of anesthetic for the surgery..Aina required breathing support...

Be strong daddy's princess....be strong...i know u will...
